Congratulations to the 2023 Highland SimWars Team and Presenters!
We are thrilled to share the accomplishment of a group of Highland EM residents yesterday at SAEM. Please join me congratulating the 2023 Highland SimWars Team in their outstanding performance at SAEM yesterday. This outstanding group of clinicians including Drs Chloe Solomon (R2), Jordan Mullings (R1), Ali Friedman R3), and Aravind Addepalli (R2) made it to the semi-finals. Along the way, they expertly managed cases of carbon monoxide poisoning, hypotensive diabetic ketoacidosis, and posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome.
Chloe, Jordan, Ali, and Aravind – you are AMAZING and we could not be more proud of you. Thank you all for representing Highland EM and Alameda Health System so well on the national stage. And thank you for all of the hard work and enthusiasm you all brought to this unique and challenging academic endeavor.
Special thanks and recognition to the small army of people who made this possible: EM faculty/AHS Simulation Center Medical Director Dr Julie Gesch who coached and prepped this team to glory, to Dr Jamal Jefferson EM Chief Resident who helped with practices, our AHS Sim Center Director and staff Kati Maxkenzie and Brian Hanlon (who support the didactic program all year long!), and last but certainly not least Interim Program Director Dr David Duong – the brain behind the logistics to mobilize this team of residents to SAEM.
In addition to Drs. Doug White, Andrew Herring, Kaitlen Howell, and Akash Desai, who gave presentations and ran workshops, our very own Dr. Henry Ashworth (R1) presented on Trauma-Informed Care practices for institutions and residency programs.
